Westlake High School project 04

Westlake High School’s Earth Tomorrow Club:

The mission of Westlake High School’s Earth Tomorrow Club is to promote the wellness of the environment.  As Earth Tomorrow members our mission is to insure the well being of the environment, it’s inhabitants, and future liberties. This aspiration will be carried out by performing various volunteering services geared towards habitat restoration, and environmental conservation. We will also educate others and provide resources to keep this planet we call home safe.

Objective:

After the construction of our school many trees and natural plants were destroyed and animals had to relocate. By building this garden we will give a portion back of what was taken away from our Earth.  Planting more trees and plants at our school will be a small step into making this world a better place. In order to establish a connection between the suburban population and the environment we will strive to inspire students to care for the environment they inhabit. To protect the environment and everything in it we educate ourselves and others about the challenges facing our communities and our world. The reason that we are building our Pride Lands Native Plant Garden so that our school can have hands on learning experiences. Also we want to have a green campus at our school and by doing so we want to start off with something that the whole school can enjoy and love into the future.

NATIVE PLANT POEM BY DAN LOUIS

He invented the cotton gin.

They were Christians but committed the biggest sin.

He worked the land from dawn till dusk.

They beat him; They beat him, and treated him brusque.

He cleared the land of trees and bees.

He picked and picked, from that one tree,

From dawn till dusk he worked like buzzing bees

They died and died like it was the fall season.

He replaced them, and planted more; money was the reason.

He crossed the ocean; the land he seizes.

They destroyed the native plants with the exchange of disease.

He filled the land with a tree.

He caused the butterflies and birds to flee,

From They; free he wanted to be.

I live here now and I have a new vision

To bring the native plants back; today’s a new season

I’ll work the land from dawn till dark.

I plant and plant and leave my mark.

Until the day; when they shall see,

The beauty of the land with birds, butterflies, and bees.
